Hello everyone and welcome to our February club night. Last month I was awaiting confirmation from the Irish Guards singers that they could come along this month, but unfortunately they couldn’t make it, so Teresa has compiled a quiz to test your grey matter. Good luck everyone, and remember, no cheating! Not that anybody would obviously. A trophy at great expense to the winners: a wooden spoon and public ridicule to the last placed team!
The £500 non-returnable deposit has been sent to the hotel, so that’s it-we’re going! Once again we have invited members of the Vision Support club in Runcorn to join us on holiday, which has boosted our numbers to 36 currently, and they have all paid their deposits, and subs. Just a reminder that the holiday must be paid in full by the May meeting.
Membership renewals are due now. The cost is, as it always has been, just £15, which represents excellent value for money. Please see me with your subscriptions.
On the subject of memberships, can I remind everyone that it is the AGM next month, so if you want to attend, and enjoy our delicious buffet, you need to be a fully paid up member. We will be taking a register on the night, so if you haven’t renewed, you won’t be allowed to take part.
This year, as you can see on the notice, we have TWO vacancies on the committee, due to Steve Lever and Doreen Redican retiring. We would like to thank Steve for his help while he was on the committee. Doreens dedication to the club goes back many years, but health problems are preventing her continuing on the committee. We hope to see her and Colin back at the club soon. If you see yourself as the newest recruit, then please make sure that you can commit to attending ALL the committee and club meetings before you apply. We would also like you to support the clubs activities, be they the trips, charity fundraising nights and any external promotional events we commit to. The more you contribute, the more satisfying it becomes. If you think that you are the person we are looking for, and you have the ideas, energy and a willingness to get involved, get your application in to Dianne before the closing date. If you need more information, then have a chat with any committee member. Come and join us, and make a difference.
Our first trip of the year is to Llandudno. The date I advised last month was Friday 17th of March which I’m sure you will realise is St Patricks day. So that it doesn’t clash with your celebrations, I have moved it to Friday 24th March, so please alter your diaries and calendars.
Friday 24th March
Friday 21st April
Friday 19th May
Annual General Meeting plus buffet
Paul Keenan, Frank Ifield tribute
Irish Guards singers
The Breakaways Ukelele Group
Craft afternoon, Easter bonnet decorating
The next fundraising event is on Friday 17th March here at the stadium, and is a St Patricks night party. There is a hotpot supper and dessert included, with entertainment from an Irish tribute band, and a raffle. Tickets are £15 each. This is a fabulous night, you’ll have a great time! Put it in your diary and order your tickets from me at the next meeting.
Thanks to you all for coming to support your club tonight. Don’t forget, we still have suggestions slips available for you to comment on what we are doing right or wrong, or to ask us to consider a new destination for a day trip, or a different activity on club nights. We want everyone to have a say on how the club is run, and these slips are there for that purpose so please use them. Have a good night.
