HAPPY NEW YEAR

We wish all our members a happy and healthy New Year. The Christmas Dinner was a great success and well attended as always. Our entertainer, Dave Osborne was fantastic, the meal was lovely and we hope you all had a good night.

Sad News

Since our last newsletter in November, we have to report unfortunately, that George Lake, Daphne Cheshire and Edith Belfield passed away at the end of last year. Last week we heard that Tim Walker, one of our founding members, had also passed away. If anyone who knew him would like to pay their respects, his funeral is on Monday 15th at 4pm at Vale Royal Crematorium, Northwich.

Turkey and Tinsel

The weather for our holiday was cold but dry. The hotel was as good as last year, and a good time was had by all APART from Joyce who spent 6 hours in A & E after a fall in her bedroom.  I’m pleased to say that she’s a tough one, and has made a good recovery from her arm injury.

Hampers

Thanks to your generosity, we managed to give Age UK five hampers for them to give to the less fortunate in our community. We made up another 3 booze and chocolate hampers to offer as raffle prizes.

Memberships

Renewals are due now, and we have been able to keep the cost at £15, which they have been from day one.

Summer Holiday

We have to pay the hotel a £500 non-returnable deposit by the end of the month to confirm our reservation.  Therefore everyone who has indicated to me their desire to accompany us this year must pay a £50 per person non-refundable deposit as soon as possible.

Afternoon Club

The meeting just before Christmas was a cracker! We had a lady come in and sing for us, and we provided an afternoon tea for everyone.  If you didn’t come to this one, you missed a great afternoon. If you would like to come along and support this meeting, it’s on the 3rd Wednesday of every month, from 2pm to 4pm at the Grangeway Community Centre.

Mayors Charity

The next fundraising event is on Friday 27th January here at the stadium and is a mid winter ball. There is a 3 course carvery meal on offer, with entertainment provided by John Norcott, for the princely sum of £15. It is a chance to dress up, as it is a black tie event, and tickets are selling out fast, so if you want to join us, give me your name tonight.

Tonight

Our entertainment this evening is provided by Vernon Fuller, who some of you may recall came to one of our afternoon meetings last year, and was a big hit. So sit back and enjoy his performance.
