Newsletter – August 2020

NEWSLETTER                                                                    AUGUST 2020

Welcome

Hello everyone, and welcome to the August newsletter. Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, August’s meeting has also had to be cancelled. All our monthly meetings and trips will be cancelled until the Government lift all restrictions. Hopefully, this will not take too long, and we send our best wishes to all members, family and friends to stay safe and well at this difficult time.

November Meeting

An early reminder for everyone. The meeting in November has had the date changed because the stadium needs both suites for events on the day of our meeting. The new date is Wednesday 17th November. Please mark it on your calendars or diaries.

Turkey and Tinsel Break

Due to the cancellation of our spring break to Blackpool, the hotel has offered us an alternative date of Dec 18th to 21st for the same price of £99 thus becoming a Turkey & Tinsel weekend. Your payments have been transferred to this holiday.

Summer Holiday 2021

11th June 2021

We have now booked 21 people onto our 2021 holiday to Lakeside Holiday Village, Hampshire. We are disappointed with the low numbers but recognise the possible anxieties re Covid – 19 could be holding people back from committing. We would assure everyone that this venue is covered by free Covid – 19 insurance protection, and that Anthony’s Travel are taking all necessary precautions re travel arrangements. If anyone wishes to see if there are any available spaces nearer to June 2021, please contact Dianne Ryder on 01928 573801, she will be happy to make enquiries for you.

Any cheques for holidays to Barry, could you please ensure that the PAYEE is clearly      marked as:

Let’s Go Stroke Club.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Teresa Cook, Sandra Byrne and Rose Cook still keep in touch with our members every week by phone to check on their well being, or any issue’s they require support with, and also by the monthly newsletters.

Quigley’s Bakery

James Quigley has provided catering for the afternoon club for the past few years. They have been delicious and excellent value.

Are you aware that he also provides Sunday Lunch at £5.50 a head? Feedback is that they are excellent quality and the portions are huge. If you are interested, please contact 01928 575839 but I would advise you to book early i.e. on a Monday as he only makes 45 lunches.

He has built an excellent reputation during lockdown, providing those in need in the community with essential supplies free of charge. Thank you, James.

Hidden Disability Cards

Sandra Byrne has purchased some hidden disability cards for members who require proof that they are unable to wear facemasks. Please contact Sandra on 01928 580887 if you would like one.

Tablet Donation

We were approached by a lovely lady called Debbie who had some new tablets to donate to people who had disabilities and were socially isolated. 3 lucky members names were drawn out of a hat and received the tablets with 3 months Wi-Fi.

USEFUL INFORMATION

iCAN Warning: Scam banking text messages Halton Trading Standards wishes to warn consumers of scam bank text messages currently circulating. Consumers have reported to us that they are receiving calls claiming to be from banks (such as RBS), when the consumer hangs up, they subsequently receive text messages claiming to be from the bank. The text message thanks the recipient for registering with digital banking (see below) and asks the recipient to contact them, if they don’t remember doing this (you won’t remember doing this because it’s part of the scam). These sorts of calls and text messages are a way of stealing your personal details and bank details. If you have any concerns about your accounts, then please contact your bank through your normal means (and not via any email links, attachments or telephone numbers in the text messages or given to you over the phone). If you or somebody you know has been caught out by a scam or fraud please contact one of our specialist officers, Linda or Sue on 0151 511 8785 or  0151 511 8775, who are already working with people in Halton who have lost thousands of pounds to scams. If you need advice on anything else, please contact the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline or 0808 223 1133

Take Care Everyone
