NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2019
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We wish all our members a happy and healthy New Year. The Christmas Dinner was a great success and well attended as always. Our entertainer, James The Singing Waiter, was fantastic, the carvery meal was hot and tasty, and we hope you all had a good night. The first prize of £150 was won by Susan Tudor.
Hampers
Thanks to your generosity, we managed to give Age UK six hampers for them to give to the less fortunate in our community. We made up another 2 booze and chocolate hampers to offer as raffle prizes at Christmas.
Memberships
Renewals are due now, and as previously mentioned, the cost is now £20, which is still fantastic value for money, taking into consideration what we provide.
Summer Holiday
This year we have a change of venue, to the Croyde Bay Hotel, which unsurprisingly is in Croyde Bay, North Devon. The dates this year are Saturday 8th to Saturday 15th June, and the cost is £378 per person. The limited number of rooms are allocated on a first come, first served basis, so be quick. We have already started a reserve list, so unfortunately we cannot guarantee everybody a place, but I hope we can pick up some extra rooms nearer to the holiday. A £50 per person non-returnable deposit is required to secure your place. (but not if you are placed on the reserve list).
Afternoon Club
The free buffet at The Grangeway before Christmas was delicious, and we had 24 participants. Next week we have Jimmy Grace to sing for us, so hopefully we can attract a few more members to attend.
Spring Break
We are proposing a mini break at the Esplanade Hotel in Llandudno from Friday 15th March to Monday 18th March for a St Patricks weekend. There is Irish themed entertainment every night, and some traditional Irish fayre. Cost is £165 per person. Please give Sandra your names so we can make the booking this week, and pay in full next month.
Mayors Charity
The next fundraising event is on Friday 18th January here at the stadium and is a mid- winter ball. There is a 3 course meal on offer, with entertainment provided by the fabulous John Norcott, for the incredible sum of £15. It is a chance to dress up, as it is a black tie event, and tickets are selling out fast, so if you want to join us, give me your name tonight.
Tonight
Tonight is Bingo night with cash prizes and bottles of wine on offer. We will have 6 games, each with a prize for a line and a full house. Each game is £1, but if you buy tickets for 6 games, it will only cost £5. Hope that is clear for everyone.
Betty Mitchell
Betty hasn’t enjoyed the best of health recently, which is why we haven’t seen her, but I am happy to tell you all that this lovely lady celebrates her 80th birthday on the 31st of this month. We will send her a card and a flower arrangement on the day, and wish her a great birthday.
Lillian Remmington
Lillian hadn’t attended many meetings before she was taken very ill some time ago, but we kept in touch with her and her daughter, Tina. We were saddened to hear that she had passed away before Christmas, and sent our condolences to Tina and her family.
