The clubs 21st birthday party was a smash hit. The Mayor and Mayoress, John and Marjorie Bradshaw, helped us celebrate, together with Ged Philbin and Ros Wong. Our entertainer, Nicole Jay was sensational, and had you up dancing in her first set. We will certainly invite her back sometime in the near future. The buffet was excellent, as it always is, and the room was decorated beautifully. I hope you all had a great time.
Last month, York benefitted from our presence for our annual visit. Although the weather was changeable, I think most managed to avoid the showers, and a good day was had by all.
Vintage Rally As I said last month the Mayor is looking for items for the tombola we are supporting at Victoria Park on 29th and 30th September. If you have brought anything in tonight then thank you. It would be nice to see as many of you as possible attending over the weekend.
We are welcoming back the singers from the Irish Guards to entertain us. Please sit back and enjoy their special blend of songs.
As ever, they will be due for payment in January, but next year sees them rise to £20, the first rise in the 21 year history of the club. Still fantastic value for money taking into account the free buffets, free transport, free entertainment, subsidised holidays and day trips.
We had no takers for last weekends event, The Last Night of the Proms, but I hear it was a fantastic night of music and flag waving. The next one is a Murder Mystery at Runcorn Town Hall on Friday 12th October. £15 will get you a nights entertainment and a 3 course meal.
The “C” word
No, not that one! Christmas! Next month we will be issuing raffle tickets again for the Christmas party. It would be really helpful if you could have them back to us at our November meeting please, but definitely before the party. Tickets will not be accepted on the night, we’ll be too busy doing everything else.
This month’s trip
The final trip of the year is to Bury Market on Friday 21st September. The coach leaves the Red Admiral at 09.15 and the stadium at 09.30, returning for 5.30pm (ish). The cost is £10 each.
Next year we are changing our destination to the Croyde Bay Hotel on the north Devon coast. Dates are Saturday 8th June for 7 nights, and the cost is £378 per person. We have already started a reserve list, but if you would like to join us, then get your names down quickly. Deposits of £100 per person are due now.
Unfortunately, Alice isn’t well enough to join us tonight, but I just wanted to make you aware that she will reach the grand old age of 89 on the 15th of this month, an achievement in anyone’s estimation. So Happy Birthday Alice, have a great day.
Turkey and Tinsel
I have negotiated a discount for the holiday to Llandudno, which is now £185. The dates for your diary are 16th to 19th November. As usual, we will call at Tweedmills for a couple of hours on the way down. If you want to go, I will need your £50 non-returnable deposits tonight, or as soon as possible. The savings club is available if you want to spread the cost.
Mayors 50/50 Draw
If you cast your minds back to earlier this year, you will recall that I was offering tickets for this draw. Well, it was such a success, that we are repeating it. The last lucky winner received £460, so it’s certainly worth buying some tickets which are just £1 each. The winner will be drawn at the Vintage Rally at Victoria Park on Sunday 30th September.
Anne Campbell, our vocal entertainer last month was really good and well received by our members.
