HAPPY NEW YEAR

We wish all our members a happy and healthy New Year. The Christmas Dinner was a great success and well attended as always. Our entertainer, Dave Osborne was fantastic, the carvery meal was a welcome change, and we hope you all had a good night.

 

 

Volunteer of the Year

This new award for 2017, was presented to Teresa Ainsworth, and was well deserved. Can anyone stop her from winning it again this year?  We would love to see more members volunteering to help the club, just ask us how.

 

 

Ernie Ratcliffe

I have to report that Ernie has resigned as Chairman with immediate effect, for personal reasons. Teresa Cook will step into the role until the AGM in March. If you think you could take on the job, and make a contribution to the running of the club, then please put yourself forward.

Hampers

Thanks to your generosity, we managed to give Age UK seven hampers for them to give to the less fortunate in our community. We made up another 3 booze and chocolate hampers to offer as raffle prizes.

Memberships

Renewals are due now, and we have been able to keep the cost at £15, which they have been from day one.

Summer Holiday

We have to pay the hotel a £500 non-returnable deposit by the end of the month to confirm our reservation.  Therefore, everyone who has indicated to me their desire to accompany us this year must pay a £50 per person non-refundable deposit as soon as possible. The dates this year are Monday 11^th to Monday 18^th June, and the cost is £350 per person. The limited number of rooms are allocated on a first come first served basis, so be quick.      

Afternoon Club

The free meal at the Halton British Legion was well subscribed, with 45 participants. I would hope that we could attract the same number to the next afternoon club meeting.

Spring Break

We are proposing a mini break at the Esplanade Hotel in Llandudno from Friday 2^nd March to Monday 5^th March for a Mad Hatters weekend. Activities include following the Alice in Wonderland trail, and a Mad Hatters Tea Party. Cost is £165 per person, although I am hopeful that I can negotiate a better deal. Please give me your names so I can make the booking this week, and pay in full next month.

Mayors Charity

The next fundraising event is on Friday 26^th January here at the stadium and is a mid- winter ball. There is a 3 course meal on offer, with entertainment provided by a fabulous band, The Brothers Grimm, for the princely sum of £15. It is a chance to dress up, as it is a black tie event, and tickets are selling out fast, so if you want to join us, give me your name tonight.

First Aid Course

We are inviting the Red Cross to provide us with a half day first aid course on the 22^nd of February, free of charge.  If that is something you would be interested in getting involved in, then please give us your names tonight, and we will keep you informed when we have made the arrangements.

Dianne has with her tonight, a large number of photos taken at the Christmas party.  Have a look through, and let her know which you would like reprints of, and she will arrange it for you, with all profits going into club funds.

Tonight

Our entertainment this evening is provided by Graham Dean, who we have not seen for some time, but always gives a great performance. So, sit back and enjoy his brand of music and humour.
