Welcome

Hello everyone, and welcome to the July meeting.  Tonight, we are welcoming Mal King to perform for us, a vocalist and guitar player amongst his many talents. So sit back and let him entertain you (to quote a well known song!)

Last Month

As you’ll realise, there was no club meeting last month due to the clash with the holiday. The last time we met seems a long time ago now, so what’s happened?

Summer Holiday

Our annual pilgrimage to Babbacombe was universally acknowledged to be a raging success, and the glorious weather I had pre-booked stayed with us all week. Day trips to Buckfast Abbey, Looe, Tavistock, Sidmouth, Exeter, and our old favourite, Dartmouth were organised, and cold drinks and ice creams were duly consumed in copious quantities. Our visit to Dawlish proved to be controversial, with an officious parking warden preventing us from parking the coach, but Dianne complained to the council, and now we have an offer of a cream tea with the Mayor next year! Even more renovations had been completed at the hotel, and the evening meals were considered (almost unanimously) to be superb. Mike, our driver was brilliant as usual, his knowledge of the area is outstanding. We have provisionally booked for next year, more details to follow.

Turkey and Tinsel

We are going back to the Esplanade Hotel in Llandudno between Friday 24th November and Monday 27th November which is 3 nights, dinner, bed and breakfast. The cost per person is £207.  Please give your names to Dianne and bring in your £50 per person, non refundable deposit next month.

Last One Standing

For those that don’t know, this is a football score prediction game designed to raise money for charity, as well as a substantial prize for the winner. This season we have benefitted from around £2,300, and will do the same during this coming season. One of its participants is a guy called Phil Hassall, who was severely injured in the Manchester bombing together with his wife. A fundraising evening was organised and raised £6,500 to help him while he is off work. Our club made a donation to his fund and 5 of our members won prizes in the raffle.

Day Trip

This month, on Friday 21st we are off to Cleveleys and Fleetwood. The cost is £10 per head, and you are encouraged to invite as many neighbours, friends and family as you like to fill the coach up. It leaves the Red Admiral at 09.15 and the stadium at 09.30.

Vintage Rally

The Mayor is looking for items for the tombola we are supporting at Victoria Park on 23rd and 24th September. Please can you dig out your unwanted presents, and look in the bargain shops for suitable items and bring them in next month.

Suggestions Slips

You will notice that there are suggestions slips and pens on each table. I don’t want to collect them back in blank. Please give us some feedback to help improve what we have to offer. Don’t say nothing and then complain when we don’t do what you want us to.

Thanks to you all for coming to support your club tonight.
