Bob Awarded British Empire Medal!

BEM MedalLocal voluntary sector legend, Bob Bryant has been awarded the British Empire Medal in recognition of his efforts in setting up the country’s largest independent stroke group, The Lets Go Club.

Bob founded the club 17 years ago and has campaigned tirelessly for patients and the disabled. Bob said, “I am really truly honoured to accept this on behalf of the stroke club and other disabled people in this borough. My name is on the medal but without the help of people all over Halton I would never have been able to achieve so much.”

He also paid tribute to his wife, Carol, saying: “Without her, I’d have been dead. When I was first poorly, she took a year and a half off work. “The commitment she has given, it should be her name on this medal.”

Rob Green, Chairman of Halton Community Radio said, “Bob has richly deserved this outstanding award for the wonderful service that he and his totally volunteer colleagues have done to assist stroke victims and their carers. I feel sure that I speak for not only the team at HCR, but also the whole borough when I say how pleased and proud we all are of Bob.”

Chris Carlin from Halton & St Helens VCA said, “I’m so pleased for Bob, He’s a man of integrity and does a great deal for his community. He’s always put the people of Halton first.”

Chris’ colleague Matthew Roberts added, “Bob is a wonderful bloke. We’re so proud of him. He’s the kindest man I know. He truly deserves this award.”

Bob continues to be a voice for patients as a lay member on the board of Halton Clinical Commissioning Group, which now looks after NHS services across the borough.

Fired with energy and enthusiasm, Bob provides practical help and organises outings and holidays for more than 200 members of Let’s Go as well as raising thousands of pounds..
